About Us
La Troupe Arlequin was first formed in 2011 as a Club within the Association Intégration Kreiz Breizh in Gouarec, following a successful one-off pantomime, Cinderella. The name, La Troupe Arlequin, was chosen by the first committee: it needed to be in French but also recognisable in English because the group was formed to enable British ex-pats living in central Brittany to integrate, socialise and share a love of drama with French and other locals. La Troupe Arlequin has since produced, on average, two productions a year including pantomimes, review/sketch shows, comedy and serious plays.
In September 2019, LTA members voted to leave the AIKB and form an independent Association. This is a really exciting time for all the 40 or so members as we are now able to control our own budget.
LTA meets every Tuesday evening, most of the year round, in the Salle de Théâtre at Collège Notre Dame, 4 rue St Giles, 22570 GOUAREC. Members are welcome to arrive between 6 and 6.30 pm; there's tea, coffee and biscuits and a chance to socialise as everyone gathers. Rehearsals, workshops and meetings start at 6.30 pm and finish no later than 8.30 pm.
Those interested in joining LTA are invited to attend twice, free of charge, to meet us and see what we do. To become a member, there's a simple form to fill out and an annual membership fee (currently 20€ per year adult / 10€ per year child). In addition, members contribute 1€ per week when they attend, which covers the cost of refreshments and hall rent.
LTA usually produces two shows per year: a pantomime in January and a play or other production in early summer. These shows don't just need actors: we always need people to paint and erect scenery, operate sound or lighting, make costumes, do make-up and hair, find and look after props, work back stage or front of house ... and the list goes on! Whatever your talents, LTA welcomes young or old, experienced or novice alike!
If you successfully audition for a part, you will be committing to attending not only Tuesday evenings but also occasional additional rehearsals, for example on a Saturday for soloists, scenery painting or choreography and, of course, for the Technical and Dress Rehearsals.
The Pantomime is usually performed on a Friday evening, Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon.
The summer show is usually performed on a Friday evening and a Saturday evening.
LTA also arranges occasional fund-raising events, and social events for the members.
